People react to stress in various ways: exercise, drinking, relaxing, running, whatever. For me, the most stress relieving thing is to do is cook. After a stressful day, I love to come home and sizzle, roast, or flambe my stress away. Nothing makes stress relief better than when I can enjoy it with a few of my closest friends. Some of them have very hectic schedules, going on tour or visiting distant relatives, so when they are in town, I try to cram in as much time with them as possible.
To commemorate our schedules all alining, I decided to throw a small dinner party with six of us attending. But then what? What would be the perfect main course? What kind of dessert would go best with the evening? I was feeling a surf and turf vibe for the evening, Beef Wellington? Filet mignon? And then for the surf: sturgeon or something like a bass? Some friends of mine had recently caught some sturgeon so I went with that coupled with filet mignon. The sturgeon was topped with a lemon caper sauce and the filet mignon wrapped in bacon, because what dinner isn’t complete without bacon. For sides, we had parmesan risotto and roasted butternut squash. Dessert was cheesecake, a traditional as well as mini version with port wine. A friend also brought pies from a local place, Black Bear Diner.
Overall, the evening was a hit with much food and drink consumed by all. It’s always nice to catch up and enjoy the company of my close friends. Stress officially relieved.
