May started off a bit slow, but like any good thing, people can’t resist the desserts for long. My list of challenges this month were long, but very, very enjoyable.
The first event of the month was Mother’s Day, a day spent with my family and friends and lots of delectable delights. The centerpiece of our meal was a prime rib roughly the size of my four month old granddaughter, baked potatoes, cheesy rice, and green beans. It was amazing. For dessert, my daughter bought two pies from Shari’s: chocolate silk and key lime and they were delicious. The day was ended with Rigby helping me decorate some cupcakes while mostly eating a lot of the frosting. I have a feeling she’s going to be a rock star in the kitchen when she gets older.
The very next weekend, a family friend’s granddaughter was having a cake smash photo shoot and asked me to create a giant Minnie Mouse cupcake cake, followed by her birthday party the same weekend.
The cupcakes were Minnie Mouse minis while her smash cake was a strawberry cake filled with strawberry puree and vanilla buttercream.
I also had a real estate friend of mine close on a house (hooray!) and wanted to have a house warming party. We went with a chocolate mini cupcake topped with mint buttercream and Andes Mints as the star but paired it with the classic raspberry cupcake with lemonade buttercream. They were such a smash, he ordered more of the chocolate minis for an open house the following weekend.
The last event I had of the month was another first birthday party with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme, called Breakfast at Ava’s. It was a brunch so on top of doing my normal cake and cupcakes, I also made two different quiches: spinach and a four cheese. They were a huge hit and the cupcakes didn’t look too bad either.
Well, now that it’s June, lots more stuff is coming up: the Alameda County Fair, the State Fair. There’s going to be lots more coming out of the kitchen so stay tuned! Until next time…
