Where did 2014 go? It seems I have fallen down again with the blogging. So let’s start in November. Once November rolls around, my life gets crazy until early January with more birthdays than you can count and holidays. Needless to say, we all go a little broke more so than usual. For example, between the 30th of December and the 10th of January, we have 4 birthdays. Four birthdays in 11 days!
Anyway, as a tradition in the family, I serve Thanksgiving dinner at my house. While our family isn’t huge, my daughters, their husbands and children, and my parents, our house is also open to people who don’t have another place to go or just want to stop by. With that amount of people, it means two turkeys is a must. To mix it up, we always have one deep fried and one baked in the oven. With the turkey we have mashed potatoes, stuffing (another favorite), green beans with bacon, candied yams, and candied carrots. Served for dessert was pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin pie, and a traditional apple pie.
Shortly after Thanksgiving, I was treated to a football game between the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers by some of my friends. Since we tailgated before the game, I brought a macaroni salad to go along with the tri tip someone was cooking and Devil’s food cupcakes with Mexican vanilla buttercream for dessert. It must have been a good luck meal because the Raiders won!!
The weeks following the game leading up to Christmas were slow but finally it Christmas came! We traditionally have dinner on Christmas Eve at my older daughter’s house where she cooks ham and ravioli among other delectable sides. For Christmas Day, my husband and I go to a friend’s house and cook all day and enjoy everyone’s company. For this year’s menu we had baked clam orgenata, broiled crab spread, artichoke jalapeño dip, 2 prime ribs, potatoes, Caesar salad, and green beans with grilled onions and bacon. For dessert, I whipped up a black cherry trifle, chocolate covered strawberries, a bundt cake, breads, decadence of all kinds.
Although the holiday season was crazy busy, there was so much love and laughter shared among family and friends alike. Until next time!
